Luke Esterkyn was brought up with his dad's love for jazz and Broadway musicals, early 80's British dirge pop, and the one-two punch of Lightfoot and Diamond. Hence the DNA map for his song writing.
So at age 12 Luke started writing songs. By 8th grade, his voice returned and he started his first band, Bogus Scam. Later that year he played his first rock show, performing original songs such as "Dying all Over You," and "Iraq Iran." In high school, music had to compete with basketball, baseball and hormones-- and again at the University of Pennsylvania--but after graduation , music won out.
Luke was never seen to study without assistance from his headphones. Did history and physics have a chance? Not likely. Creative writing, on the other hand, was always interesting, especially when it could be accompanied by the guitar and music to accompany the words; as Luke matured so did his songs. "It's pretty tough to understand the creative process," he claims; "sometimes it lies dormant and then explodes, but other times it evolves and draws inspiration from many sources." Especially his own experiences. Now in his 20's Luke has many years ahead to stay tuned in to his own interpretations of stuff like relationships and love and kitchen appliances. He's another Stroke 9 original. |
